Is Identity Ministry Bad?
I am working on a project right now about identity and the slides below are pulled from some of my recent writings. I feel that the messages they convey are powerful and very moving, but the more I’ve been working on this project, the more I can’t help but think about how identity ministry sometimes gets a bad reputation as being “self-focused.” And if done incorrectly, the critics are right… it can be. But here’s the thing we have to recognize before we condemn it entirely:
Christian culture is struggling right now because we learn so much about who God is, but many of us don’t truly know who we are in Him and through Him.
And if done correctly, identity ministry seeks to AWAKEN the woman inside that He always created us to be by pointing us back to the God who designed our very being, loves us, empowers us, pours through us, encourages us and challenges us.
It’s not about building up personal ego, but it is about knowing who you are and Whose you are and allowing that to encourage you into an EMBOLDENED life with Him.
And you have HIS permission to live BOLD, my friend!
Make no mistake about it – You were created with intention and for a purpose. You were created to be the beautiful you for a very Kingdom-glorified reason! Knowing who you are in Him opens the door to living life fully alive in all that you were made to be on this side of Heaven!
And here’s a very powerful truth to go with that:
You can know your “identity” as head knowledge that just rattles around in your brain and gets jotted down in your journal as daily affirmations, or you can…
Live from your identity as a deeply held truth that you have in your heart and wake up every morning excited to walk out with Him.
The former requires teaching.
The latter requires relationship.
We will never fully possess our identity as daughter of the King without a supernatural download from the One who created us as His.
Your identity as daughter of the King is a supernatural inheritance and requires a supernatural encounter with your Creator in order to truly possess it and live from it.
We cannot study our way into it, read our Bible enough to possess it, or sit under someone else’s teaching and gain the understanding.
There is only one way – relationship with God.
And you see, understanding our identity in Him is vital for living from our already God-given freedom, power, authority, and purpose, or else we will always STRIVE for it. If we don’t know who we are, we are always working hard to become who we think He wants us to be.
And that brings me back to this Bible verse:
Daughter, “My yoke is easy and my burden is light.” ❤
We were never meant to live our entire lives striving to be enough to make Him happy.
“Daughter, Know Me… and then you will know how loved you already are. Cherished, poured over, empowered, favored, and called…”
So, if we don’t talk about identity in the church, friend, we take the risk of listening to the voice that says, “you are never enough. Keep trying harder…”
When what we need to be saying is –
“Ask Him who you are, and then…”
Go out and live from it
Color outside the lines.
Be boldly in love with your Creator.
Unapologetically stand out in the crowd – even if it’s a church crowd.
Be different.
Push beyond the norm to dive deeper into His heart.
Be His daughter, in all your uniqueness and quirks.
Be the *you* that God created you to be.
And don’t ever let anyone tell you to shrink back or fit inside a box.
Because you see, your light will shine in the darkness, and it will reach others that need to meet the God who lives in you and pours through you; the One who loves you just as you are.
What a beautiful and freeing thought, right?
So, I leave you with one last question –
In Him, there is freedom because HE IS TRUTH and the truth will set you free.
So, what are you waiting for?
Ask Him….
And then go out and set the world ablaze with His Kingdom fire!
