Summer Break Reading & Writing Resource For Kindergarten and First Grade Level (Free Download Included)
Kindergarten is a fun and amazing time when our children are learning so much! One second they are memorizing the alphabet and potty-training. Then you swear you just blink and here they are reading words and writing sentences! It’s quite remarkable to watch their little sponge-like brains just absorb the world around them! But, as any teacher or parent will tell you, this is also the time when repetition seems to be a vital tool in the retention process! The University of Tennessee in Knoxville studied the effects of summer reading in young students and concluded that, “children who do not read in the summer lose two to three months…

Let’s Make Nature Art!
We absolutely love going on nature walks. For me, there’s nothing quite as rejuvenating as being outside and letting my senses take in all of the sights, smells, and sounds of the great outdoors. So, naturally, when I saw this idea floating around social media to create art out of things you find in nature, I just knew that we had to try it out! (…and I’m so glad that we did!) This project not only ended up being fun and creative, but it also brought the whole family together around the table because everyone wanted to try one! Before we get started, I wanted to mention a few small…

Let’s Make Homemade Volcanoes!
Who doesn’t love watching a homemade volcano erupt? The first thing that my son wanted to play with in our new science discovery box (12 days of experiments) was the volcano, but unfortunately, it wasn’t all that exciting. My little guy just kept trying to figure out how to make the eruption bigger. No problem, kiddo! I’ve got this! We’re going to make our own! What the hand does, the mind remembers. – Dr. Montessori We started out by building our volcanoes out of air dry clay. I had previously picked up some on Amazon for another project. Find it here: Crayola Air Dry Clay. At first, I had to…

STEM Preschool Project: Watch White Flowers Change Color
As a mom to a little homeschooler, I’m always looking for educational projects and activities that will teach him valuable lessons and provide him with useful tools, while also managing to hold his age-appropriate short attention span. Children are like little sponges and I never truly give him credit for everything that he grasps and understands when we work on projects together. It always hits me when I listen to him tell his daddy about the experiment. That’s when I realize how much he truly learned. For that reason, I love to do educational hands-on projects with him that incorporate multiple lessons. One of his recent favorites was this STEM…
