Mom Life

The Baby Shower Gift We Have Used For Over 5 Years!

I don’t write a lot of product reviews on my blog, but I remember being a first-time expectant mom and trying to sort through the scary task of making my first baby shower registry.

What do I actually need?  Which product works best? Do brands matter? What will I forget? Oh gosh, how can I put such expensive items on my registry and actually ask people to buy them?

That was over five years ago, but I still remember how overwhelmed and anxious I felt about it all.

Fast forward to today and I can’t believe that I’m still using one of my baby shower gifts over five years later!  Weekly, if not daily at times!

(Before we get started, I wanted to note that I do not get any commission or kick-back whatsoever for sharing this.  These are my honest 100% non-solicited opinions about this product!)

So what is the magic gift that packs so much bang for the buck and has the power of longevity? It’s our…

Summit X3 hybrid jogger/stroller by Baby Jogger!

When we went shopping for baby strollers, my husband literally jogged around a huge Buy Buy Baby store with multiple strollers and joggers searching for just the right one (total first-time parent move, right?)! But it worked, and he found one that he (and I) absolutely fell in love with!

Fast forward to today and this stroller has probably traveled hundreds of miles by now!  It’s been down dirt roads, gravel roads, paved roads, bike paths, walking trails, forest trails… you name it!  The all-wheel suspension and durable tires make it super reliable for on and off pavement! And in case you’re wondering, it’s not just for running moms either!  It’s just an all-around wonderful stroller.  I even bring it on quick trips in and out of the grocery store from time to time.  And the cherry on top? The Baby Jogger customer service team is absolutely top notch!

Why Do I Absolutely Love This Stroller?

Ease of Pushing:

Let’s face it, some strollers are just work to push.  Well, let me assure you, you won’t have that problem with this one!  Even my mom was very surprised when she pushed my now 40lb. five year-old in it recently! It moves with ease and maneuvers all kinds of terrain due to it’s all-wheel suspension and swiveling front tire.  This is especially important if you’re a runner.  It doesn’t add all that extra work to your run.  It just glides in front of you with minimal effort on your part!  Huge bonus!

Reclining Seat:

This is a dream for the mama that uses this stroller during naptime!  The back just drops right down to an almost-flat recline that is both comfortable for the rider and the runner.  I’ve taken my little guy on many runs during naptime and he just snoozes the entire time.  In fact, he’s so comfortable, he often sleeps for a while even after we get home.  Bonus!

Large Under-Seat Basket:

Sometimes I’m amazed at the amount of stuff we manage to pack for a walk.  Sunblock, hats, wipes, diapers (at one point), extra clothes, water, snacks, bug spray, and don’t forget the toys that we somehow just have to bring!  It’s why our “mom purses” are like a Mary Poppins endless assortment of essentials, right?  Well, here’s something to celebrate about this stroller… the basket underneath the seat is very large and holds it all!  I have yet to overflow the basket and I have filled it with all of the above and more!  It’s just a mother’s dream for stroller storage!

Folding, Storing, and Transporting the Stroller:

Inside the seat, there is a handle that you can grab and pull to easily collapse the stroller.  Your biggest barrier with this collapsing stroller is the large back tires, but I’ve been able to load this into multiple vehicles over the years with ease!  We never leave it at home! And when you’re ready to pull it out of the car and use it… you just pop it right open! No extra work!

Comfort:

The padded seat, vents, and UV 50+ sun canopy make for a comfortable ride for my little guy, while the design of the handlebars and the swiveling front wheel, oversize tires, and all-wheel suspension make it a comfortable stroller for the runner, as well.  From newborn to five-years-old, I rarely hear a complaint out of my little guy when he goes for a ride.  Sleeping or cruising awake, he’s comfortable and happy.

Added “Parent Console” Handlebar Basket:

As part of my baby shower, I was gifted a Baby Jogger handlebar basket (“parent console”) that fits this stroller and it has been a wonderful and much-needed addition to my stroller.  It holds my water bottle, my  wallet, my phone, and anything else I might need to have quick and easy access to while out and about. You can find it on Amazon (click here).

Added Snack Tray:

I have to admit that we use this tray somewhat inconsistently, but when we use it, we love it! It’s a tray that fits right into the universal accessory mounting brackets on either side of the seat and holds my little guy’s drink and snacks with ease. You can find it on Amazon (click here).

Safety Strap & Hand Brake:

Over the years, I have used this safety strap and the hand-operated deceleration brake (located on the handlebars) many times!  If I find myself jogging in a hilly area, it’s nice to have the added safety benefit of having a strap wrapped around my wrist.  And I have fallen in the past on a run and maintained hold of the stroller simply due to that strap.  I’m often happy to have this extra safety feature.  Another great safety feature… the stroller comes with a five-point safety harness!

Durability and Longevity:

As mentioned before, our jogger has traveled hundreds of miles, been popped up and collapsed more times that I could ever count, been over all kinds of terrain, pushed through sunshine, rain, snow, and other elements and held a child from the time he was 8lbs to his now 40lb self.  It has been used almost weekly, if not daily, for over five years! And it is still a fantastic stroller, durable and reliable!  I love our Summit X3!

The Baby Jogger Customer Service Team:

I have had to contact the Baby Jogger customer service team twice over the last five years (both circumstances were due to no fault of the product or the company). In a day and age where great customer service is difficult to find, I was absolutely blown away at the incredible treatment that I received. Their team was very polite, helpful, professional, and took every opportunity to go above and beyond in both circumstances to help me and get me back on the road again!

Basic Info:

Based on the babyjogger.com website, the stroller weight is 28.44lbs.  Price runs a bit over $400, based on the Baby Jogger website. You can visit the Baby Jogger website by clicking here.

If that price scares you when it comes to adding it to a baby shower registry, just remember…

Friends and coworkers love to go in together on a gift if it’s something that you truly need and will use over the years ahead, so add it on there and enjoy! They will love seeing their shower gift being used over and over!
